A vibration board whose bottom board undertaking the compaction of the soil can be set in vibration directly by a motor-driven vibration generator arranged on it and is weighted by a top mass spring-mounted relative to it. In the known vibration boards of this type, the vibration generator also attends to the locomotion of the board. In cohesive soils, the vibration force with propulsion component generated by the vibration generator may not be sufficient to simultaneously release the board from the soil and move it further in the desired direction of travel, so that the board sticks to the soil. This disadvantage is removed according to the invention by at least one endless belt (8) which extends roughly parallel to the vertical board longitudinal centre plane (L) with the upper side above the bottom board (1) and with the lower side underneath it and is guided on the vibration board via deflection devices (5a and 6a) in such a way as to be movable in the longitudinal direction, the belt area extending over a substantial part of the width of the bottom board. In the area below which the belt or belts (8) are placed, the bottom board (1) can easily be released at any time from its base under the vibration forces irrespective of the nature of the soil, whereby the precondition for the problem-free locomotion of the vibration board in the direction of travel under all operating conditions is ensured.

|
