The seat, which is to be arranged such that it can be displaced longitudinally in a motor vehicle can be fixed in selectable longitudinal positions by means of a manually operable locking device which latches into rack-like legs of a guide rail arrangement comprising two rails which can be displaced relative to each other. Apart from this locking device a bolting device which can be actuated by inertia forces is provided on the guide rail arrangement. In order for the bolting device to be able to respond without delay, it is composed of a bolt member mounted pivotably on one rail and supportable against abutments on the other rail and of an inertia pendulum which is held in an articulated manner on one rail and acts upon the bolt member.
