<p>Mechanical stair system of the type which includes a plurality of interconnected load-bearing steps guided in an endless ascending/descending oblique path, in order to connect two landings, which comprise a pair of drive chains arranged along the sides of the installation and running between a first drive toothed crown, located on the upper landing and integral in operation with the drive means of the installation, and a second, driven crown, arranged on the lower landing and over a tensioning bridge, capable of absorbing linear increments in said chains; a plurality of load-bearing platforms or steps, pivotably fixed to said drive chains, one after the other in an endless series, capable of moving in an extended position over their airborne path and of retracting during the remainder of travel; means for guiding the steps, in the form of slide tracks or rails, suitable for slidably defining and supporting the path of said steps and the associated drive chains, and for inducing the extension or retraction of the aforesaid steps; and two above-floor hand rails in the form of endless belts which run over the outer periphery of individual balustrade structures arranged on the sides of the stairway and which are each driven by a respective wheel associated operationally and in synchronization with the drive means of the installation.</p> |
