A number of brief parts are knitted on a circular knitting machine. A series of brief parts are connected side by side in the form of a tube. In a first embodiment the tube is unstitched in the wale direction whilst knitting on the machine, followed by a separation in the stitch direction. In a second embodiment, after separation in the stitch direction on the machine, a tube length (comprising a series of brief parts) is removed from the machine, following which the tube length is unstitched in the wale direction. The brief parts are turned over and seamed along the side to form the finished briefs.
