Machine which can be used as a motor comprising a stator having a stationary non-magnetic structure carrying several rows of magnetic pins (12) alternating with rows of magnetic pins (10) carried by a moving structure (16, 18) and co-operating with the stationary pins (12), and inductor means (20, 22) carried by the stator in order to create an induction field following a path having a reluctance which varies depending on the relative position of the stationary (12) and moving (10) pins, the magnetic pins of the various rows being placed facing one another. The pins of at least one of the series of rows consist of permanent magnets (12) or are associated with such magnets. <IMAGE>
