PURPOSE:To provide a water repellent compsn. which is inexpensive and exhibits excellent water repellency, by the use of a small quantity thereof, comprising an emulsion contg. both waxes and an olefin/malecic anhydride derivative and protective colloid. CONSTITUTION:Waxes (A) having a m.p. of 40-90 deg.C (e.g., paraffin wax), an olefin/maleic anhydride derivative (B) (e.g., an adduct of maleic anhydride to a 4-60C alpha-olefin), a water-soluble alkaline compd. (C) (e.g., NaOH) and pref. further a hydrocarbon resin (D) (e.g., a petroleum resin) are added to water in such quantities that the ratio of the combined quantity of the components A and D to the quantity of the component B is 1:0.01-1:0.7, by weight, and they are emulsified. The resulting emulsion is mixed with protective colloid (e.g., polyvinyl alcohol) in such quantities, that the ratio of the combined quantity of the components A, B and D to the quantity of the protective colloid is 1:0.01-1:0.4, by weight, to obtain the desired water repellent compsn. |
