发明名称 THIN FILM MAGNETIC HEAD
摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the outside shape of heads and to securely and accurately fix the heads to a substrate by embedding coil conductors to grooves provided to a lower magnetic material and connecting the same to conductors exposed to the side face of the lower magnetic material. CONSTITUTION:The groove 2 of the ferromagnetic material 1 are coated with SiO23 and Cu is deposited thereon by evaporation to embedded electrodes 4 by which the magnetic material is flattened. SiO26 is deposited on the SiO23 and Cu is deposited thereon by sputtering and is then patterned to form the coil conductors 7 and leads 8. The coils 7 are usually formed to a spiral wire shape. The SiO26 is opened with windows 9 through which the coils 7 and the electrodes 4 are connected to permit the independent operation of the respective heads. The surface is coated with SiO210 and a gap film 18 having a prescribed film thickness is formed. A ferromagnetic metal is deposited on the surface to provide an upper magnetic material 11 having a prescribed track width. SiO212 is formed and glass 13 is melted and packed. A ceramic plate 14 is welded after flattening. The surface to contact a magnetic recording medium is machined and polished and the substrate is isolated to head chips 19. The outside shape is made extremely small according to such constitution. The secure and accurate sticking of the head to the mounting substrate is made possible by utilizing the side face. The reliability is thus improved.
