<p>An overspeed safety device for ensuring the operational safety of a rotating body, rotating about a vertically oriented axis which body for safety could not exceed a predetermined angular velocity, the safety device being a hollow member pivotable about a pivot point proximate a lower end of said member, radially away from the center of the rotating body, the hollow member having a surface inclined radially upwardly and away from the center of the rotating body from the bottom to the top to support displacing means thereon which moves up the inclined surface to the upper end of the hollow member, away from the center of the body when the rotating body exceeds a predetermined angular velocity causing the hollow member to pivot about the pivot point, and a pivotable arm activated by the pivoting of said member thereby effecting the rotation of said rotating body.</p> |
