PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation of a thin casting strip and to improve the quality thereof by executing casting by water cooled rolls in an inert gaseous atmosphere and blowing an inert fluid to the thin strip right after casting to control cooling. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a main body vessel 1 and an ingot conveying vessel 10 is evacuated to a prescribed of vacuum degree and thereafter gaseous argon or the like is supplied from inert gas supply ports 7, 12 into the vessels to preliminarily replace the inside of the respective vessels with the inert gas. A molten metal is then poured from a ladle 2 to the space between the water cooled rolls 4 via a tundish 3 to forms a molten metals pool 15. The molten metal solidifies quickly by contacting with the surfaces of the rolls 4, thus yielding a thin metallic strip 16. The strip 16 is quickly cooled at a desired cooling rate from right under the rolls 4 by an upper gas spray zone 6 and a lower gas spray zone 11. |
