There is disclosed a thermal transfer recording medium comprising a support, a layer containing an aqueous emulsion of a heat-fusible substance provided on the support and at least one colorant layer comprising an aqueous emulsion of a thermoplastic resin and a colorant provided on the layer containing an aqueous emulsion of a heat-fusible substance, the colorant layer having a film thickness of not more than 2 mu m.
