The invention relates to a method for producing a fibre-optic polariser, in particular by means of cost-effective mass production. The first step in this case is to grind a tangential face on a collapsed preform rod, and to draw out the preform thus machined to form an optical fibre. A coating, preferably of CaF2/Al is subsequently supplied to the tangential face which is likewise formed there.
