In a method for reducing harmful substances released in the combustion zone during smoking of paper-wrapped tobacco, a substance, which produces micropores in the paper near to or in the combustion zone, is to be added to the paper and/or to the tobacco. As a substance which explodes under the action of heat and thus tears micropores in the paper, club moss seeds are used.
