A label container for labelling machines having a horizontal position of use possesses an upwardly open guide groove (4) in the filling-up region. Provided along the guide groove is a label slide (1) which is movable parallel to the direction of advance and which is connected to an advancing device (12). The label slide has a bridge (2) which extends transversely relative to the feed direction and on which two pivotable supporting flaps (3) are arranged. The supporting flaps are located on both sides of the path of movement of the labels and are defined in their advancing position by means of a torsion spring (6) and a stop pin (5). During a movement of the label slide opposite to the direction of advance, they swing automatically out of the path of movement of the labels. An especially rapid and easy replenishment of labels becomes possible in this way, without the possibility that, during the change-over of the label slide, labels will slip out of place and thus cause serious operating faults. <IMAGE>
