The apparatus presented here for keeping sewage away from a receiving watercourse is to be used predominantly in the area of town drainage. In particular in the case of combined sewers, rain can lead to sewer overloading, with the result that possible ways of relieving the sewers have to be provided. If receiving watercourses are provided, excess water is separated off into the receiving watercourses. This can involve high degrees of contamination of bodies of water. In order to prevent this adverse loading of bodies of water, there is to be arranged, in the receiving watercourse, a slack collecting tank, comprising a suitably shaped sheet which is suspended on a floating-body frame designed in a movable manner. As soon as sewage is channelled between the sheet a slight excess pressure in the water arises with respect to the water level in the receiving watercourse, said excess pressure resulting in the sheet drifting, while carrying the floating body along with it. If, after the occurrence of rain, sewage is guided out of the tank back into the sewer, the water-pressure conditions are reversed and sheet and floating body revert back into the initial position.
