Penicillanic acids (I; A=H; R=-CHR1-B; R1=C1-5alkyl; B= -OCO2R2; R2=C1-5lower alkyl; R4=C1-4alkyl or alkoxy) useful as an antibiotic, are prepd. by the reaction of II and III. thus, the mixture of 50ml MeOH and 6,6g KOH (85%) is reacted with 15.1g phenylglycin and 4.3g formalin(35%) for 4hr to give 19.0g N, N'methylene-bis-alpha- aminophenylglycin.K.
