Device for continuous patenting of wire, in which the wire passing through is first heated to a temperature above the transformation point of the wire material, than is continuously cooled in a melting bath to a temperature of approximately 400 to 550<o>C after which it is reduced in a final cooling operation to a temperature at which it can be handled, whereby the heating is effected in at least two consecutive stages, the continuously moving wire being in the first stage preferably heated up at a high heating rate to a temperature which corresponds to at least half of the value of the preset heating up temperature preferably at least 500<o>C, and in the second stage the heating up to the preset final heating temperature being affected preferably at a slower heating rate, and the cooling rate in the melting bath is regulated by varying the speed of the moving wire in relation to the cooling bath.
