Sealing ring consisting of elastomeric material for inserting into a bead (6) at the socket end of a sewer pipe (5) comprises a base part (2), which is supported on the base of the bead (6) via at least two peripheral sealing strips (16) and fixes the ring in the axial direction with respect to the socket end, and two sealing lips (3, 4) which extend radially inwards, starting from said base part, but are each configured asymmetrically with respect to a plane standing vertically on the ring axis. In particular in order to facilitate mounting, the sealing ring according to the invention is distinguished by a configuration, which is mirror-inverted in practice, of the rear ring half with respect to the front ring half. The front end surfaces (7, 8), respectively directed towards the ring end sides, of the two sealing lips (3, 4) have, in this arrangement, a bevelled portion which, in practice, starts from the base and facilitates the introduction of the pipe to be connected. There is further provided a spacing (a) between the rear sides (9, 10), of the sealing lips (3, 4), which are directed towards the ring centre and fall away steeply towards the base (2), said spacing corresponding approximately to the axial extent of the sealing lips at their transition point to the base (2). <IMAGE>
