PURPOSE:To perform assembly without using a hydrogen-containing atmosphere and make the capacity balance between a positive and a negative electrodes adequate, by putting a nickel oxide electrode in a state of overdischarge. CONSTITUTION:When an enclosed storage battery assembled from a nickel electrode in a state of overdischarge and a negative electrode of a hydrogen occlusion alloy in a state of discharge is repeatedly subjected to charge and discharge, a capacity given to the negative electrode by the charge of every cycle is all converted into the form of an active material but a capacity given to the nickel electrode by the charge of every cycle is only partly used for the discharge so that the capacity is used for the discharge on the negative electrode by only a quantity corresponding to the capacity for the discharge on the nickel electrode. For that reason, the capacity is stored on the negative electrode by only a quantity corresponding to the difference between the charge capacity and the discharge capacity until the charge and discharge efficiency of the nickel electrode becomes 100%. This is utilized to complete the preparatory charging of the negative electrode when the charge and discharge efficiency of the nickel electrode has become 100%. An adequate capacity balance can thus be secured for the storage battery. |
