PURPOSE:To prevent crack in an electrolytic layer and leakage of gas from the cell end section by integrally forming a gas seal section at the end of an electrode supporting board thereby preventing local dimensional variation of the electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:A gas seal section is formed integrally at the end section of electrode supporting boards 11, 16. The gas seal section is formed by making the end section of the electrode supporting board more dense than other portion then impregnating said section with fused carbonate. Consequently, local dimensional variation of the electrode plate can be prevented. Since the electrodes 13, 15 and the electrolytic layer 14 are supported by the entire plate, crack due to application of excessive stress onto a portion of the electrolytic layer 14 or leakage of gas from the end section of an init cell can be prevented. |
