PURPOSE:To obtain the optimum ignition timing in an engine even if its fuel and operation conditions are changed, by obtaining upper and lower limit values of a knock control range from a required ignition timing characteristic while a correction coefficient from an ignition timing correction amount, obtained by a knock control, and controlling the ignition timing. CONSTITUTION:A device, being equipped with an engine speed detecting means C-1 and operation load detecting means C-2, determines a basic advance timing value on the basis of a condition, detected by these means, in the second means C-4. Next, the first means C-3 obtains upper and lower limit values of a knock control range corresponding to an engine speed and an operative condition. And the third means C-5 obtains an ignition timing correction coefficient for the before said basic advance timing value in accordance with a knock generation state. And the device, further calculating an ignition timing correction amount corresponding to an operative condition in the present point of time from the first means C-3 and the third means C-5, controls ignition timing. In this way, even when an engine generates a change not only in a fuel octane number and a vapor component pressure but also in an engine operative condition, the engine can be controlled so as to continually obtain the optimum timing. |
