PURPOSE:To obtain the titled antifreezing fluid capable of preventing the corrosion of a heat exchanger made of aluminum, by adding an anticorrosive agent and a metal chelating agent to an antifreezing fluid. CONSTITUTION:A metal chelating compd. (e.g., tetra- or triethylenetetramine) is added to an antifreezing fluid comprising 90-95% ethylene glycol and 5-10% anticorrosive agent comprised of 5,000-10,000mg/l of PO4<3->, 500-1,000mg/l of NO2<->, 100-2,000mg/l of NO3<->, 0-10,000mg/l of sodium benzoate, and 1,000-3,500mg/l of mercaptobenzothiazole. The amt. of the metal chelating compd. added is 3-5 times that of Cu<2+> ions present in the cooling water of an engine. The addition of the metal chelating compd. serves to inactivate Cu<2+> ions present in the cooling water of an engine through formation of a complex compd. Therefore, the corrosion of aluminum can be effectively prevented and, at the same time, the antifreezing agent can be used for a long period of time. |
