PURPOSE:To harden hgih temp. steel materials with high cooling efficiency without damaging the heating furnace in the stage of quick cooling and hardening said materials while conveying the same with rolls by preventing the outflow of cooling water as return water in the direction of the heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:While a steel material 1 which is heated to high temp. in a heating furnace is conveyed rightward by plural upper, lower grooved rolls 2, 3, and upper, lower flat rolls 7, 8, the material is quickly cooled and hardened by the cooling water from upper, lower spray nozzles 5, 6, and plural upper, lower water supply nozzles 11, 12. Here, covers 9, 10 are provided, and preventing plates 13, 14 for return water are provided between the nozzles 5, 6 and the rolls 2, 3 and between the covers 9, 10 and the rolls 7, 8. The cooling water is filled between the covers 9 and 10. The water on the upper side of the plate 1 is discharged through discharge ports 16 and the water on the lower side through discharge ports 19. The outflow of the water toward the heating furnace on the inlet side of the material is obviated and the steel material is cooled and hardened efficiently without damaging the heating furnace with leaking water. |
