PURPOSE:To reduce circulative resistance and control generation of cavitation by providing a valve body, which variably controls dimensions of a passage for cooling water, on both sides of the operational direction moving in the axial direction of a thermostat with rise of the temperature of the cooling water. CONSTITUTION:A thermostat 25 equipped with a wax case 26 pushes out a piston 27 of a rod 33, the upper end of which is fixed to a diaphragm actuator 32, with rise of the temperature of the cooling water and the wax case 26 itself descends. An upper side valve body 28 is fixed in one body with the upper end part of a surrounding wall of the wax case 26, and a lower side valve body 34 is held by means of a rod 36 on the under-surface of the wax case 26 through a spring seat 36 and a spring 38. Both valve bodies 28, 34 are opened in order, and the cooling water sent from a radiator through a cooling water inlet 2 is introduced into a cooling water pump through a cooling water outlet 22. |
