A power supply device for cathodes of X-ray tubes has a housing in which one or more insulating transformers are cast whose primary coils are at earth potential and whose secondary coils are at high-voltage potential. In this case, the housing forms a structural unit which is connected to the X-ray tube by means of known high-voltage connections in a mechanically fixed manner and electrically by means of a plurality of poles, but such that it is easily detachable. The high-voltage supply itself is effected via a single-pole cable, which is likewise connected to the housing by means of known connections; the currents which are produced at high-voltage potential can additionally be rectified and smoothed, the switching elements being located in a metallic housing, preferably in the form of a bush (socket), which housing or bush can easily be replaced for repair purposes after releasing the connection between the housing and the X-ray tube.
