An optical head according to the invention for a laser storage disc has: a substrate (1); a waveguide layer (3) formed over a main surface of the substrate; a semiconductor laser (4) for radiating laser beams into the waveguide layer, the semiconductor laser being set into a depression (17) which is dug at least into the waveguide layer; a focusing grid coupler (6), which is formed on the waveguide layer for focusing the radiated-in laser beams onto the storage disc and for guiding the beams reflected from the disc into the waveguide; a beam-splitter device (5), which is formed on the waveguide layer between the semiconductor laser and the focusing grid coupler for dividing each of the reflected beams in a certain acute angle; and a photodetector device (10) for converting the divided beams into electric signals, the photodetector device being provided on both sides of the semiconductor laser and being arranged no closer to the focusing grid coupler than the semiconductor laser. <IMAGE>
