PURPOSE:To enable penetration of ink into recording paper to be prevented and ink to be easily erased by providing a hydrophobic ink layer on a substrate and a hydrophilic penetration preventive layer which softens or melts at predetermined temperatures on an ink layer. CONSTITUTION:If a thermal head 5 is partially heated in accordance with a recording signal, a binder of an ink layer 1b and a penetration preventive layer 1c in such a heated part softens or melts and subsequently, the ink layer 2d1b and the penetration preventive layer 1c are separated from a base film 1a and are transferred faithfully to recording paper 2. Thus desired characters and symbols 2b are recorded. The recorded characters and symbols 2b are composed of the ink layer 1b of thermal transfer medium 1 and the penetration preventive layer 1c. These layers soften or melt during recording operation, but are not mixed because off their different properties. For this reason, ink of the ink layer 1 transferred to recording paper does not penetrate into the recording paper, so that it can be easily erased by adhesive tape, etc. |
