PURPOSE:To provide a thermal head capable of efficiently releasing heat, printing at high speed and ensuring close contact of a thermal recording paper and a heating region of the head, by providing a metallic layer on a flexible film so that the metallic layer makes contact with a heating part of a heating resistor through a thin insulating layer therebetween. CONSTITUTION:An Ni layer is provided on an Ni-P layer by electroplating to provide a metallic layer 33, then a polyimide resin is applied to the metallic layer 33, and is hardened at a predetermined temperature to provide an insulating layer 35. Next, a thin film of a Pt-Rh alloy is provided by sputtering, and is processed by a photolithographic technique to provide heating resistors 15. A flexible film provided with the metallic layer 33, the insulating layer 35, the heating resistors 15 and current-supplying elements 17, 19 is fixed to a semicylindrical support 37 so that a heating part is located at the top of the curved surface of the support. A protective layer 23 consisting of a Ta2O5 film for the heating resistors is provided on the heating part 21 and the current- supplying elements 17, 19 by sputtering to produce a thermal head. |
