<p>Sulfonamides of the formula <CHEM> wherein W is O or S; R is H or CH3; A is a bicyclic heterocyclic group; R1 is an organic substituent of defined structure, or N3; R2 is H, halogen, nitro, cyano or various organic groups; and their agriculturally suitable salts, exhibit herbicidal activity. Some also show a plant growth regulating effect. The novel compound may be made e.g. by reaction of an appropriately substituted benzenesulfonamide with the methyl or phenyl ester of the appropriate N-heterocyclic carbamic acid.</p> |
