The pellets of feedstuff, which are cylindrical, are poured onto a vibrating disc (23) in the centre of a tray (24). The pellets (25) eventually move to the edge of the tray and pass over a narrow gap (26) onto a quasi-tangential chute (27). At the end of the chute, one end of the pellet enters one of the holes (12) in the circumference of a rotating disc (11). The disc carries each pellet to a fixed radial knife blade (18), which shears off the protruding end of the pellet. The pressure needed to shear the pellet is measured by a load cell pressure transducer (22). As the holes pass under the axis of the disc drive shaft, cam-driven plungers eject the remnants of the sheared pellets.
|
