Biological fluid in a source reservoir (2) is centrifuged at a speed and for a time to effect sepn. of desired components into layers. A pressure is maintained in the source reservoir (2) to flow the components therefrom and, while still centrifuging, a separated component is pumped into a conduit (4) which is oriented to have a non zero centrifugal gradient along its length. Pref. pumping is carried out using a funnel shaped cap over an outlet of the source reservoir to convert the flow of the sepd. layer of a component from the reservoir to a columnar body in the conduit, which is of a volume to entirely contain the desired component and of dia. small enough to prevent remixing when the centrifuge stops.
