NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula II. USE:A semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic having low toxicity. PREPARATION:The OH group at the 3-position of an amino-protecting derivative of a 3-O-demethylistamycin B shown by the formula II (R is mino-protecting group) is acylated with glycine having protected or unprotected amino group or its reactive derivative, to form an amino-protecting derivative of a 3-O- demethyl-3-O-glycylistamycin B shown by the formula III (R' is H or amino protecting group). The amino-protecting group is removed from the compound.
