Date Apr. 26, 1984.An electromagnetic contactor for controlling the opening and closing of an electric circuit for an electric motor or the like, including a mounting pedestal including a rectifier circuit therein, a stationary iron core disposed thereon and having an operating coil wound around the same, and a movable iron core disposed oppositely to this stationary iron core to be spaced therefrom by a predetermined spacing thereby to change an AC voltage applied to the operating coil to a direct current. The stationary iron core is composed of a bar-shaped magnetic member while the movable iron core is substantially U-shaped.
