<p>1437101 Continuous casting INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE 24 Oct 1973 [6 Nov 1972] 49476/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division F2 and F4] A vessel 1 (e.g. into which molten metal may be fed continuously or intermittently through a pipe 29 and be heated and circulated by an induction heating device 26 and have an inert gas passed into it through a porous plug 27) communicates through an outlet 2 with a horizontal mould 4, the passage to the mould being closable, e.g. by a gate valve 7. The gate 7 slides in notches 30, 31 in the faces of apertured plates 8, 9 between which the gate is clamped and is operated by a cylinder. Slide portions (19, 20) of a plate 11 fixed against the vessel 1 guide the ends of the elongated gate 7. The withdrawal speed of the casting may be varied cyclically. The gate 7, plates 8, 9 and a nozzle 10 to the copper mould 4 may be of aluminous material, zirconia or boron nitride. The members 7-9 are clamped by a plate 13 loaded by springs on rods 16. When the gate 7 is closed, the nozzle 10 and mould 4 may be replaced by others of different cross-section.</p> |
