PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of connection between an optical waveguide and an optical fiber by removing a protective coating layer from the outer periphery of an end part of the coated optical fiber and decreasing the external diameter of the coating removed part. CONSTITUTION:Protective coating layers 15 and 16 are removed from the outer periphery of the end part of the coated optical fiber 11 by specific length to form the coating removed part 17. In this case, the protective coating layer 16 is removed more than the other protective coating layer 15 to form a step between the end parts of those protective coating layers 15 and 16. Then, the external diameter of the coating removed part 17 is decreased to a specific value, but a means which decreases only a clad 14 in diameter while maintaining the core diameter as it is employed in this case. |
