摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To set a semi-colored area to some part of a display plane at high position accuracy and to produce a device at a moderate cost by obliquely intersecting the rubbing direction of the front and back of the prescribed small area on at least one intermediate substrate with each other, or making said directions in parallel. CONSTITUTION:In the small area 12a the rubbing direction is made in parallel on the front and back as arrows a1 and a2 show, whereas the rubbing direction on planes (display main plane) other than said front and back in the small area 12a intersects orthogonally on said front and back as arrows a3 and a4 show. In terms of front and back substrates 11 and 13, their inner rubbing direction (a3 and a4) are set the same (a5 and a6) as the display main plane of the opposite plane of an intermediate substrate 12. As a result, a liquid crystal molecule in a cell follows the direction of the arrows a1-a6, and a color element moves in said directions. Accordingly the display plane except for the small area 12a on the intermediate substrate 12 becomes colored in impressing a voltage, whereas a part corresponding to the small area 12a becomes colorless. If the rubbing direction on the front is not in parallel with that on the back, but obliquely intersects with the latter, the display plane can be semi- colored to some extent different from coloring except for the small area.</p>
