An instrument is used for the semi-automatic insertion of contact pins, sockets, etc. into bores in circuit boards. The instrument has a plunger (3) which moves in a cylindrical bore, which is joined by an inclined side-channel (7) through which the pins to be inserted are fed so that they are held in position at the lower end of the main bore (2) in which the plunger moves until the plunger is forced down to enter them successively into the bore in the circuit board. The feed of the pins may be assisted by a compressed air feed through an air entry (9) and a feed lever (8) may operate in the side-channel to ensure proper spacing of the pins.
