An electric shaver with shaving head has a system of blades and a guard foil situated above the latter. A wear indicator is installed in the said guard foil. This is preferably brought about by producing the guard foil (1) so that it is composed of three layers, i.e. a base layer (3), a copper layer (4) situated above the latter and a top supporting covering layer (5). When the base layer (3) facing the system of blades has worn away, the copper layer (4) is exposed and the initially metallic sheen of the guard foil (1) now acquires a reddish tinge, which indicates that the guard foil needs to be replaced. <IMAGE>
