Apparatus for the extraction of a mineral from surrounding material, in particular for the extraction of precious stones, semi-precious stones or noble metals from pieces of material in which they are embedded in their naturally occurring state, comprises a liquid filled container (1), at least one shock wave generator (7) and at least one shock wave reflector (8) associated therewith. The reflector (8) is so formed that it focusses shock waves from the generator (7) on a point (11'), or a region, eg to form wave front 10', in the container via the liquid, and a conveyor belt is provided to carry the pieces of material into or through the focussing region where they are reduced in size by the action of the shock waves. <IMAGE> |
