<p>APPARATUS AND PROCESS FOR APPLYING ELASTIC BANDS A ribbon-like elastic element, under tension, is secured to a sheet of relatively unstretched, impermeable, plastic material which defines the outer covering of a sanitary product such as a disposable diaper. The securing is done by using a hotmelt adhesive, which is applied to the impermeable plastic sheet from a nozzle, as the sheet moves beneath and closely adjacent the nozzle, The hotmelt adhesive extends, generally at an angle, between the nozzle and the plastic sheet, and a jet of cool air is discharged against that side of the adhesive material which subsequently contact the plastic sheet. This reduces the temperature of the adhesive coming in contact with the sheet and avoids damaging the sheet. The ribbon-like elastic element is applied to the other side of the adhesive strip which has not been cooled by the jet of air. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention refers to a process to apply, by sticking with hotmelt adhesive, elastic ribbon-like elements in tension on sheets of plastic material. The invention is preferably applied to the manufacture of sanitary products, as, for example, disposable baby diapers or adult incontinence pads.
