PURPOSE:To simplify an external circuit while reducing vertical smears by isolating a region, in which horizontal switching elements are integrated, and a region, in which the other element groups are integrated, by an impurity layer different from a substrate and applying substrate voltage to the impurity layer at regular timing from the outside. CONSTITUTION:Potential is applied to an impurity layer 400, in which horizontal switching elements are integrated, from the outside by a signal line 90. Signal charges stored in photodiodes 3 are read by an output signal line 7 through vertical switches 4 and horizontal switches 5, and vertical smear charges are lead out as substrate currents to the signal line 90 from vertical signal lines 6. Consequently, the horizontal switching element section and each of the other element groups are isolated, thus applying predetermined voltage to the impurity layer. An external circuit can be simplified because of a simple constitution, thus allowing the reduction of cost. Elements attached anew to the vertical signal lines are unnecessitated in order to minimize vertical smears, thus preventing the increase of fixed pattern noises and the like, then reducing the vertical smears more efficiently. |
