PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the thickness of paper etc. without damaging detection capacity even if the feed speed of the paper etc. is made rapid, by applying vibration attenuating capacity to an elastic support member itself. CONSTITUTION:A detection roller 2 is mounted to a structural member 6 through a shaft 3 in a freely rotatable manner and an elastic support member 4 is constituted of a plate shaped elastomer 8 and a vibration attenuating material 9 and adhered to the upper surface of the member 6 under pressure. This elastomer 8 is mainly laminated in its axial direction and, at the same time, carbon fibers 10 are also appropriately laminated in the directions forming angles of + or -45 deg. to the axial direction. When the member 4 is vibrated, because there is difference between the elongation of the surface of the elastomer 8 contacted with the attenuating material 9 and that of the surface of the member 6 contacted with the attenuating material 9, the attenuating material 9 absorbs deformation receiving cyclically by the vibration of the member 4 and converts the vibration energy to heat energy. Therefore, the vibration of the elastomer 8 is dampened and, even if the pressing force energized to the roller 2 is low, the vibration of the member 4 due to the collision of paper memory can be rapidly suppressed. |
