PURPOSE:To recover valuables contained in coal in a simple manner with a high purity and a high yield, by feeding coal into molten iron to decompose and release hydrogen contained in the coal, dissolving carbon contained in the coal in the molten iron, depositing the carbon, and suspending ash on the molten iron. CONSTITUTION:Molten iron 2 of 1,535 deg.C or above is fed into a heat resistant, rectangular parallelepiped, hermetically sealed coal decomposition container 1 and is circulated upward and downward. A CO gas is blown into the container from a blowing pipe 4 to promote the circulation of the molten iron 2, while pulverized coal is carried on the CO gas stream and is fed from a blowing pipe 3 into the container. The pulverized coal which is carried on the ascending stream 6 is decomposed by high temp. molten iron, thereby causing phenomena such as formation of a hydrogen-contg. gas, formation of molten slag which is ash and dissolution of carbon into the molten iron 2. The hydrogen-contg. gas is discharged through a discharging passage 9, while the molten slag 7 is discharged outside the system through a discharging passage 8 after it is suspended on the upper layer. When the temp. of the molten iron is 1,153 deg.C or above and the concentration of the carbon is 4.25% or more, part of the carbon which is in a dissolved state is deposited accompanying the dropping of the temp. in the ascending of the pulverized coal and is discharged outside the system through the passages 8, 9. |
