PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device where intervals between electrodes facing each other are made uniform and constant to stabilize the display characteristic, by cutting a glass fiber superior in diameter accuracy to dimensions slightly longer than the diameter and using an adhesive, where these cut glass fiber pieces are mixed to constitute a spacer. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber 4 whose diameter is equal to a required gap between substrates is selected and is cut to dimensions longer than the diameter of the glass fiber 4, for example, 0.1-0.5mm length which is about 10 times as long as the diameter. These needle-shaped glass fibers 4 and an adhesive are agitated sufficiently in proper proportions, and a screen having a slit through which needle-shaped glass fibers 4 pass with a space is used to apply and print them on the periphery of a substrate 1a. The other substrate 1b is put on the adhesive on the substrate 1a, and they are held with a prescribed pressure until the adhesive 3 is solidified, thereby forming a spacer 2 in the gap between substrates which is set by the diameter of glass fibers 4. |
