The folding wheelchair has an adjustment (22) e.g. a leadscrew mechanism, to elevate the seat and back rest portions relative to the main frames of the chair. The seat (11) is vertically slidable on a pair of sideframes, the lower portions of the seat and side frames being interconnected by cross stabilising struts (20). When the raising mechanism is operated, the side frames are elevated relative to the main frame (2) carrying the wheels. This ensures that the side frames and seat lift as a unit, together with the cross-struts, to maintain the wheelchair in the spread condition. The leadscrew can be operated via an electric motor. The seat frame can be slidable vertically so that it rises during folding of the chair. |
