An intrinsically safe safety circuit is proposed for controlling critical loads of gas burners or oil burners which is self-monitoring and, in the event of failure of one of its components, causes defect-disconnection of the connected loads. For this purpose, the circuit has two control loops (28, 29), which are electrically linked to one another, for the loads (36, 40, 41), each of which emits a predetermined sequence of logic signal levels (I1 to I8) which are interchanged between the two control loops (28, 29) and are compared with one another, as drive signals and feedback signals.
