A spotlight, especially an industrial spotlight having a reflector which directs the light parallel and having a lens which closes the reflector and, in the installed position of the spotlight, has horizontally running cylindrical optical lenses which are arranged one above the other in the form of rows. These cylindrical optical lenses have an elliptical curved shape in vertical cross-section, the curved shape being formed by the elliptical section which is located essentially between the major and minor axes of the ellipse. In this case, the part of the elliptical section which is adjacent to the major axis of the ellipse when the spotlight is in the in-use position forms the upper part of the cylindrical optical lenses. This upper part of the cylindrical optical lenses direct the light downwards, while the lower part of the cylindrical optical lenses directs the light upwards and hence deflects a large portion of the luminous flux onto the surface regions which are to be illuminated and are located at a greater distance in front of the spotlight.
