The invention relates to an apochromat which can be used as a telescopic or collimator apochromat of large aperture and very high imaging performance. The apochromat consists of an arrangement of three mutually coupled optical elements between which a fluidic optically transparent means is inserted as composite medium. Use is made as optical elements of two diverging meniscuses consisting of a special type of glass, between which there is arranged in a self-closed fashion via the composite medium a biconvex lens consisting of a crystal or a crystal-like glass. A high radiant transmittance is achieved through the avoidance of reflection losses as a result of the inventive refractive power sequence of "-+-" and of the specifications of the optical elements. At the same time, the technical outlay on the production of the system is substantially reduced by comparison with conventional arrangements.
