DRIVING APPARATUS OF AN ELEVATOR

The appts. comprises a motor(5) coupled to a winder(20) which takes up a suspension member(3) for supporting a cage(1). A control device is employed selectively to connect to the motor either a three-phase A.C power source RST for energising the motor to raise the cage, or a single-phase A.C power source obtained by rendering one phase of the phase A.C power source nonconductive, so as to lower the cage and decelerate the cage in an ascending direction. Pref. the winder is a hoisting drum type winder having a drum which takes up and delivers a rope for suspending the cage.
