In guillotine shears, in particular for cutting sheet-metal strips, with a top blade (3) and a bottom blade (2) as well as a strip-straightening unit which is arranged in front of the bottom blade (2), is controlled in synchronism with the movement of the top blade (3) during the cut and is pivotable to a limited extent via a pressure-medium cylinder (10), the straightening unit has a multiplicity of pressure pieces (5) which sit on a beam (8) pivotably mounted at one end and connected at the other end to the pressure-medium cylinder (10). A separate pressure-medium cylinder (7) is allocated to each pressure piece (5). The pressure surfaces (11) of the pressure pieces (5) are arranged individually at an angle to the axis of the associated cylinder (7) and run parallel to the sloping cutting edge (4) of the top blade (3). <IMAGE>
