The magnetic drum recording cassette has a recording element that is produced between an outer sleeve and an inner element that has a projecting stud. The motor has a rotor within a housing with a field magnet and a commutator. The motor shaft is supported in bearing races at either end. The shaft is coupled to a gear reduction that has a magnetci clutch coupling. A toothed belt transmission connects with a leadscrew that has a carriage. A magnetic pickup coupled to a head provides recording of data onto the magnetic surface of the drum.
